Jan. 20, 2018 - Had a great day at the Saskatchewan Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference in Saskatoon at Smileys Restaurant. My side was the S.V.G.A., with our pumpkins. There were speakers for Fruit and Vegetables separately and some for both groups.
I gave a presentation to everyone on "Improving Your Online & Social Media Presence", which covered things like Google Business, Bing Places, MetaTags, Sitemaps Verified Facebook pages, Mobile Friendly pages and other Social Media Platforms. The presentation seemed well received by these small to large growers.
There were a a bunch of other speakers like Kate Congreves an Assistant Professor Plant Sciences at the U.of S. on "Organic Matter & Soil Health". Clinton Monchuk from Farm & Food Care about telling our story as growers to the public.
Gary Hughes from Sobeys stopped by looking for local growers to sell their products in their stores, much like the Federated Co-ops have been doing for the last number of years with Prairie Fresh Food Corporation, and other local growers.
Jeff Cooper gave an informative presentation of STEP and exporting.
The groups split to listen to their respective Ministry of Agriculture Provincial Specialist on their Test Plots Results from 2017. Connie Achtymichuk for Vegetables and Forrest Scharf for Fruit. Industry Round Tables followed and then each AGM.
A tour of the Saskatchewan Agri-Food Innovation Centre (website might be down) followed at this amazing centre, and toured their new building at Schuyler Street in Saskatoon. Millions of dollars of equipment, for cooking, packaging, testing, extruding, distillery, and so much more. Coolers, freezers, labs, processing areas, offices were very nice.
