Jan. 20, 2018 - Had a great day at the Saskatchewan Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference in Saskatoon at Smileys Restaurant. My side was the S.V.G.A., with our pumpkins. There were speakers for Fruit and Vegetables separately and some for both groups.
I gave a presentation to everyone on "Improving Your Online & Social Media Presence", which covered things like Google Business, Bing Places, MetaTags, Sitemaps Verified Facebook pages, Mobile Friendly pages and other Social Media Platforms. The presentation seemed well received by these small to large growers.
There were a a bunch of other speakers like Kate Congreves an Assistant Professor Plant Sciences at the U.of S. on "Organic Matter & Soil Health". Clinton Monchuk from Farm & Food Care about telling our story as growers to the public.
Gary Hughes from Sobeys stopped by looking for local growers to sell their products in their stores, much like the Federated Co-ops have been doing for the last number of years with Prairie Fresh Food Corporation, and other local growers.
Jeff Cooper gave an informative presentation of STEP and exporting.
The groups split to listen to their respective Ministry of Agriculture Provincial Specialist on their Test Plots Results from 2017. Connie Achtymichuk for Vegetables and Forrest Scharf for Fruit. Industry Round Tables followed and then each AGM.
A tour of the Saskatchewan Agri-Food Innovation Centre (website might be down) followed at this amazing centre, and toured their new building at Schuyler Street in Saskatoon. Millions of dollars of equipment, for cooking, packaging, testing, extruding, distillery, and so much more. Coolers, freezers, labs, processing areas, offices were very nice.

Great conversation with Joe from Flag Raiders in ON, and Mike Pev Peverill. Not sure who the other fellow is but most likely David "Reaper" Justin who has a 3 hour radio show weekly. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/shootusoon I'm going to resurrect the Paintball Business Journal, which is an Industry publication for Paintball. I've completed my survey of 44 paintball fields in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I hope to get all of Canada done before the PB-EX (up to 135 fields in Canada), and some of the USA. It takes 10-15 minutes per field to collect all the data. Name, website, type of online booking, waivers, types of play, fields, party targeted, Google Business listings, social media used, Insurance, good web design, (10 categories). It will give a very good insight on what fields are doing and what improvements they could make. There are some massive playing sites, and lots of family run ones too. Most are not the primary income, just like in the USA. I suspect that I will find 150-200 paintball fields in Canada. I've been told that there are 750 paintball fields in the USA. Pev said 1,000 but that is more of a guess. Since Canada has 10% of the population of the USA, if they have 750, we should have 75, but I think we will be higher, just because of distance to play. This list would help a Paintball Industry Association get started too, with good current stats.
This Weekend Greg Hastings did something Amazing, "Greg along with a small Team went to one of the Biggest video game Conventions in the World and Talked about PAINTBALL, over 20,000 of them. they stood on our feet for 3 days and handed out FREE PASSES to 5 Texas Paintball fields, and talked about playing paintball to every person who got a pass! They took pictures with our guns, they were Amazed how far the technology has come asking how my DAM worked, how Marc Sutherland T15 shot First Strikes, that David Justin pistols were cool, that Bea Youngs was a Professional and an Icon, the knowledge of Mike Pev Peverill about the industry, and watched Behind The Bunker being filmed LIVE on Location!
We talked about Massive games like CPX Sports - Living Legends and SuperGame 50, about real video game fields like NUKETOWN at Paintball Explosion, about doing chopper fly runs at Zero Hour: Insurrection, tHE iNSANITY THAT HAPPENS AT Decay of Nations and we saw their eyes light up! And then we said you could even try it on virtual reality here today before you go out and play! We gave away 20 Paintball markers provided by Ultimate Paintball to kids who played the app around a 360 camera, Paintballers drove for hours just to help, and cheer us on, one even flew up from Florida to help us hand out Passes!!! Hundreds said we made them want to play again, parents Loved the passes for Birthdays and to get their kids off the Couch, and with Over 20,000 flyers we gave out, Not A SINGLE ONE was left on the Floor!
Think about what that actually does to Really grow the sport, All of the NEW people interested in playing now... I would get into which Paintball Companies didn't do a thing to Help us, or people that mocked us, but that wouldn't help Anything, and I want to be positive! Just know that Greg's and James vision of what Paintball can do has restored my Faith into the Future of Paintball.
Peace, Blessings, and Ill see you in the Tall Grass
